Prepare for your adventure
Ensuring you have the right gear is key to an enjoyable and safe hiking experience with Trekstride Events. Discover what to bring for every type of British weather and terrain.

Essential items for every hike
No matter the forecast, some items are non-negotiable for your Trekstride Event. Always bring suitable footwear, spare socks, and waterproofs. Adequate water for the journey's length is crucial. Depending on the weather, sun cream may be required, and poles are recommended if you use them. For personal care, pack plasters and blister treatments. Please note, a comprehensive first aid kit will always be carried by your group leader.

Adapting your kit for the weather
The British weather is famously unpredictable, so preparing for all conditions is wise. For hot and sunny days, bring sun cream, hats, and other head coverings to protect yourself. When it's cold, a spare base layer, gloves, and extra layers are vital to stay warm. For rainy conditions, ensure your waterproofs are reliable, and consider additional layers to help you keep dry and insulated throughout the hike.

Recommended clothing and footwear
For your comfort and safety, we strongly recommend wearing hiking boots. Trail trainers are an acceptable alternative for many of our routes. It's crucial to avoid wearing any footwear that is new or likely to cause blisters. Always prioritise well-worn, comfortable shoes that provide adequate support for varied terrains. Layered clothing is always best, allowing you to adjust to changing temperatures during your walk.
Enhance your hiking experience
While not strictly essential, some optional extras can make your hike even more enjoyable. Bringing along your favourite sweets and drinks can provide a welcome energy boost. You might even consider bringing enough to share amongst the group, fostering a friendly and communal atmosphere. A small, lightweight camera or your phone for photos can capture beautiful memories of the stunning British countryside.
